Pedestrian grabbed from behind, robbed on Gorham Street

By: The Daily Cardinal /The Daily Cardinal  - February 20, 2008

A man claiming to have a gun robbed a 19-year-old woman early Sunday morning on the 700 block of East Gorham Street, police said.

According to a police report, the woman was walking alone just after 2 a.m. from a friend’s house on Gilman Street to a different friend’s residence on East Gorham just after. The woman said a man grabbed her from behind by the hair, stated he had a gun and demanded her purse.

A brief struggle ensued and both the victim and perpetrator fell to the ground due to the ice and snow covering the sidewalk from Sunday’s winter storm. According to police, the perpetrator then grabbed the woman’s purse and fled westbound on East Gorham Street.

Police describe the perpetrator as a black male, age 30 to 35, between 5’8” and 6’0”with an average build. He was last seen wearing a medium-to-light colored waist length winter coat.
