The Badgers break from battling conference foes ended in a thrilling double overtime 1-1 tie against UW-Milwaukee at Engelmann Field in Milwaukee.

Senior midfielder Sho Fujita scored his first goal of the season and third of his career to give the Badgers (0-2-1 Big Ten, 5-4-3 overall) a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute. The goal came off of a penalty kick and was one of Fujita’s two shots on the night.

The Panthers (2-0-1 Horizon, 2-8-2) would not stay down for long however, as they struck back in the 68th minute.

Senior midfielder Zeke Dombrowski fired a quick free kick around a wall of Badger players and junior forward Colin Baker converted on the score.

The play was a role reversal for Dombrowski who leads the Panthers with four goals.

Junior defender Andy Miller, sophomore forward Brandon Miller and senior midfielder Nick Caronna each had excellent chances on goal but none could slip a shot passed UWM junior goaltender Grant Fernstrum.

Fernstrum is the backup for UWM and has sent back more than 78 percent of the shots he has seen so far this season.

Wisconsin sophomore goalkeeper Alex Horwath made two saves but allowed his first goal in non-conference play since mid-September.

UW’s offense was far more active than their in-state rivals out shooting them 21-11. Fernstrum came up big for UWM snagging 11 saves.

Wisconsin’s lone score was its first in its last three games. The team has only been shut out three times this season, but all have come in the last six contests.

This game marks the second consecutive tie between these teams who battled to a 2-2, double-overtime draw last season. The Badgers will come home for home matches against Ohio State on Saturday and Marquette on Tuesday. The Badgers have four more Big Ten contests this season. contributed to this report.
