In a separate incident, police arrested a man for punching a window pane and breaking the glass of the Great Dane’s entryway.

The Madison Police Department arrested two transient men in separate incidents in downtown Madison Tuesday night.

The first incident occurred around 7:22 p.m. when police responded to a call about an aggressive panhandler in the 100 block of State Street, according to a police report. A business owner told police a man was “getting in the faces” of customers trying to enter his store.

When police arrived, the man, 53-year-old Eton Bentley, pulled out a switchblade knife, threw it on the ground and began screaming obscenities.

Bentley was arrested and tentatively charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a switchblade knife, menacing panhandling and a parole hold. MPD is requesting he be placed on the State Street ban list.

In a separate occurrence, police arrived at the Great Dane Brewery at 123 E. Doty St. at 11:37 p.m. after a man punched a window pane, breaking the glass of the establishment’s door. MPD public information officer Joel DeSpain said employees escorted 51-year-old Ronald Duell out after a bartender refused service to him.

“They say he ordered a drink and the bartender told him she was not going to serve him and gave him a glass of water,” DeSpain said.

Once outside, the man punched the door and began yelling obscenities at police who responded to the incident, according to DeSpain. Police arrested Duell and tentatively charged him with criminal damage to property.
