Assistant Web Editor
Assist in the development and design of The Daily Cardinal website. The Assistant Web Editor is a perfect position for an enthused individual who has the desire to contribute to and learn the workings of dynamic websites.

Must have extensive knowledge of XHTML, CSS, and some knowledge of/experience in web programming.
Knowledge of/experience in Ruby on Rails, PHP, or Javascript is preferred, but aptitude to learn these skills is required.
You can work as much or as little as your schedule allows.

Accounts Receivable Manager
This paid position is ideal for students majoring in business and looking to add relevant work experience to their resume. As the accounts receivable manager for the Daily Cardinal Media Corporation, UW-Madison’s student newspaper, you will have the unique opportunity to work in a corporate environment that supports and encourages students to learn through experience. Duties include but are not limited to:

Process incoming payments by updating computer database and deposit slips
Process credit card payments
Deposit checks at M&I Bank (main & carroll) every 1-2 weeks
Manage overdue outstanding receivables on a weekly basis by making phone calls, invoicing late fees, and sending out past due notices
Maintain a log of progress in collecting overdue receivables
Check business voicemail and respond to customers in a timely manner
Attend bi-monthly business staff meetings
Report problems immediately to the Business Manger and provide weekly updates
Reporting to and maintaining close contact with the Business Manager
Completing special initiatives assigned by the Business Manager

5-8 hours per week, hours are very flexible Convenient on campus location at Vilas Hall Position starts October 1, 2008, but may need to be available sooner for training. Requires a 2 semester long commitment. No specific major or experience required, business majors preferred; desire to learn and ability to work and communicate in teams is essential. Graphic Designer
This paid position is ideal for students interested in adding professional graphic design experience to their resume. As the Graphic Designer for the Daily Cardinal Media Corporation, UW-Madison’s student newspaper, you will have the unique opportunity to work in a corporate environment that supports and encourages students to learn through experience. Duties include but are not limited to:

Meeting with clients who request help in creating advertisements
Creating advertisements from logos and designs provided from clients
Creating advertisements from scratch
Modifying advertisements to meet client needs
Reporting to and maintaining close contact with the Business & Advertising Managers
Completing special initiatives assigned by the Business Manager

5 hours or less per week, hours are very flexible Convenient on campus location at Vilas Hall Position starts as soon as applicant is available and requires a semester long commitment. No specific major required, experience preferred; desire to learn and paying attention to detail is important. Ability to work and communicate in teams is essential. Marketing/Promotions Intern
This unpaid position is ideal for students looking to add marketing and promotional experience to their resume. As a Marketing/Promotions Intern for the Daily Cardinal Media Corporation, UW-Madison’s student newspaper, you will have the unique opportunity to work in a corporate environment that supports and encourages students to learn through experience. Duties include but are not limited to:

Assist Marketing Director in competitor research
Work on local and national promotions to create brand awareness
Help create special issues such as the annual Bar Guide & Reader’s Choice Awards, & more
Visit local businesses to solicit sponsorships
Perform various marketing/promotional tasks as instructed by the Marketing Director and Business Manager

5 hours per week, hours are very flexible. Convenient on campus location at Vilas Hall Position starts as soon as hired applicant is available and requires a 1-2 semester long commitment.
